Two important days that epitomize the spirit of the Turkish national struggle, the Adoption of the National Anthem on March 12, and the Çanakkale Victory Day on March 18 were marked by a meaningful assembly at Tarsus American College. The event, which featured student performances, presentations, and musical performances, helped us remember our national journey towards independence, culminating in the epic victory in the Dardanelles Strait in 1915.
The program began with a moment of silence and the the National Anthem, written by poet Mehmet Akif Ersoy and adopted by the Turkish Grand National Assembly on March 12, 1921. It is one of the strongest expressions of the Turkish nation's determination of being a free state more than a century ago.
The student performances, poems, and visual presentations, combined with short film screenings and folk songs, allowed the audience to relive the spirit of the War of Independence and the atmosphere of sacrifice and solidarity of the Çanakkale wars. The school's chamber orchestra, which provided the musical backdrop, made a strong contribution to the assembly, creating emotional moments for all.
The assembly helped the school community pay a collective tribute for martyrs who lost their lives while trying to liberate their homeland, as well as two pivotal figures spearheading this journey: Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and Mehmet Akif Ersoy.
